That gap is not something you can close by buying a machine, so werob starts one floor up: transport in assisted-living stock, common-area cleaning, and the depot behind the round.

The market you are being sold does not exist yet. The one underneath it does.

At the end of December 2023 almost 5.7 million people in Germany needed care under SGB XI, and 86 percent of them, 4.9 million, were cared for at home (Destatis, Pflegestatistik 2023). 3.1 million of those received care allowance only and were looked after mainly by relatives; 1.1 million were supported by one of 15,549 ambulatory care services. Set against that, IFR World Robotics 2025 recorded 536 units sold worldwide in 2024 for care at home. Not 536 in Germany. 536 in the world. Meanwhile Destatis projects a shortfall of 280,000 nursing staff by 2049 in its trend variant and up to 690,000 in its status-quo variant. Anyone selling you a robot for the flat is selling ahead of the product. Meals, laundry, consumables and parcels between service kitchen, store and floors in assisted-living stock. Lockable compartments with PIN handover, cooled where food is involved, and the same route every day without tying up a carer.

Corridors, entrance halls and community rooms cleaned to a fixed schedule overnight. Worth being precise about: a cleaning robot cleans, it does not disinfect (Fraunhofer IPA). Wipe disinfection stays with the team.

The part of ambulatory care nobody photographs. Picking tour boxes, moving consumables and materials, keeping the store in order, so the shift starts with a loaded car rather than a search.

Nothing that senses inside a private flat is specified before the data-protection assessment, not after it.

Home-care questions

Is there a care robot for the living room yet?
No, and the numbers are unusually clear about it. IFR World Robotics 2025 recorded 536 units sold worldwide in 2024 for care at home, against 4.9 million people cared for at home in Germany alone (Destatis, Pflegestatistik 2023). A private flat is the hardest environment robotics has: thresholds, loose rugs, stairs, no lift, furniture that moves, no service technician, nobody to charge the machine and nobody on call at three in the morning. That is why we start in the building and not in the flat.
What about the household humanoids everyone is showing?
They are pre-order and pilot stage. There is no humanoid you can order today, deploy into German assisted-living stock next quarter and get serviced on a contract, and we will say so rather than sell you a launch date. If that changes, werob is manufacturer-independent and will integrate it. Until then the honest answer is that the demo video and the procurement reality are two different things.
Which standards actually apply here?
It depends on what the machine does. A transport or cleaning robot moving through a corridor falls under ISO 3691-4, the harmonised standard for driverless industrial trucks and autonomous mobile robots listed in the EU Official Journal since May 2024. ISO 13482 covers personal care robots, meaning physical contact with a person, and is routinely quoted for machines it does not apply to. Above both sits Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 on machinery, which applies from 20 January 2027 and replaces Directive 2006/42/EC.
What happens to resident data?
In a private home, data protection is the first question and the technology is the second. Our default is the least-sensing system that still does the job: no camera where a sensor will do, no cloud where local processing will do, processing inside the EU, role-based access and audit logging. A voice assistant without a camera clears a front door that a camera-equipped robot never will, and that is a design decision, not a limitation.
What actually breaks in a real building?
The lift, the fire doors, the thresholds and the WLAN. In older housing stock the lift has no interface, the fire doors close on a route the robot has to cross, and the network was never designed to cover a stairwell. None of that is on a datasheet, and no manufacturer publishes a lift protocol or a named lift-maker partner. Lift and door integration is a per-building item, not a product feature, which is precisely the work werob does.
Where does this stop and senior living start?
Senior living is the inpatient home with its own kitchen, night shift and Heimaufsicht duties. Home care is everything around the flat: assisted-living stock, service living, and the depot and round logistics of an ambulatory service. The hospital and the laboratory are a third case and run under the healthcare solution. Most operators have more than one of the three, and they are specified together.
